Perseverance Jedi is half brother to Basic Instinct, the grey gelding from our stud who is ridden by HH Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa. Instinct was 10th in the World Endurance Championship in Malaysia 2008, and 15th in the European Championships in Florac this year.
Jedi has been bred and raised on the same principles as Instinct – good endurance genetics, healthy natural lifestyle, growing up as a young horse in large open areas of rocky and uneven terrain so that he is completely sure-footed on the endurance tracks. He is well trained with good attitude and manners, carefully brought on through novice without any strain or injuries.
Jedi is a winner! He won both the latest Karoo Challenge 120km in atrocious conditions and the Hofmeyr 130km, and also took Best Condition at both rides. He was second at Winburg 120km in 6 hrs 19 min, and second again at Schanskraal 120km in a blistering 5 hrs 53 minutes!
He was the first barefoot horse to be selected for the national team at the South African International Challenge at Modimolle this year, and placed 8th in 5 hrs 55. He followed that up by riding for SA again at the Fauresmith 201km and placing 5th in 8 hrs 36. He and Laura also took home the Luk du Buisson Floating Trophy for the best turned-out horse & rider… another first for the barefoot horses.
His winning streak started at Koffiefontein in 2009 with an average speed of 22.8 km/h. From a field of strong contenders he was awarded Best Condition Senior and Best of the Best over all… and he brought home a diamond from the Koffiefontein mine as a prize!
Update: at the Eastern Cape Championships at Schanskraal on 22 October 2011, Jedi was declared the Eastern Cape Horse of the Year… another first for the barefoot horses!
