Despite the most horrendous riding conditions – torrential rain and oceans of mud – we swept the board in the 120km distance. Francois Seegers on PSV Mauser won the Heavyweights, our new work rider Ashley Gower on PSV Karoo won the Young Rider and Laura Seegers on PSV Jedi won the Standardweights.
Laura and Jedi also won the Best Condition and Fastest Time awards, matching last years winning time of 7 hours 28 minutes on a DRY course! At our last ride in 2010, hosted by the Welbech Stud at Schanskraal, Laura on PSV Jedi and Megan King on PSV Mauser rode a very fast 120km in 5 hours 53 minutes.
Laura was EC Reserve Champion and Megan was EC Champion Young Rider, plus Mauser took Best Condition at that race. Ashley Gower came 4th in the FEI * 80km, and Francois brought our two guest riders, Ronel & Nico Thirion, safely through their first ever endurance ride.
All our horses were, of course, barefoot!
With last year’s hard work coming to fruition, we now have over a dozen horses competing in endurance, both senior and novice. So other rides on our calendar over the next couple of months are: Queenstown 19th Feb; Louise Botha 5th March; Waterlea 12th March; and the SA International Challenge at Alma, where Laura and Jedi will be riding for the Eastern Cape team, and are also reserves for the National team.
We held our second Barefoot Course at the beginning of February. Cameron Svacha attended it and had this to say: “For any one that has barefoot horses or is thinking of going down that stony road, whether you trim your horses yourself or have someone else trimming your horses’ feet, do yourself a favor and attend one of these clinics, you will be blown away to say the least… Thank you Bob, Laura, Gurth, Rosemary and Lucy for your wonderful Karoo hospitality, food and information.”
Desiree Wadsworth of Primary Hoofcare attended the first course: “Your clinic was most informative and enjoyable. I would highly recommend it to any horse owner who is considering going barefoot. I think it’s great that you have taken the initiative to share your incredible experiences with other interested parties… Your food and hospitality were exceptionally good!!”
And most exciting of all, Perseverance will be hosting the 1st Annual East Cape Arab Breeders Society Auction at Broederstroom in April. More details will be following shortly, so keep an eye on your inbox.
New FOALS, STALLIONS at stud and HORSES for sale
The year began for us with another rush of mares foaling, to bring our total so far to 12 fillies and 5 colts, with a handsome sprinkling of bays in the mix. And there are still a few more mares due to foal!
Apart from a couple, all the new horses were sired by our STALLIONS currently standing at stud: El-Jahrousse Amir, who we bought in 2009; Jaudet Silwer, our pure Crabbet sire; and PSV Orient, our young stallion. More details are attached, if you’re thinking of sending your mare to us.
If you’re in the market for an ENDURANCE HORSE, senior or novice, or a YOUNG HORSE that is starting under saddle, have a look at our fanpage, or get in touch and I’ll send you more details on which ones are available for sale.
On the team front, we said good-bye to Megan King in December, and welcomed Ashley Gower to Broederstroom in January. Ashley was already riding for us while working for his family’s business, Wild Coast Horseback Adventures, and has now joined us full-time. We’re also very happy to welcome Joanne Palmer, who is spending 2 months at Perseverance on a working holiday.
All the best from Team PSV. See you at a ride soon!
