PERSEVERANCE Arabian & Endurance Horses have special Arabian bloodlines, they have functionally beautiful bodies, and they do endurance barefoot.
At Perseverance we use South African Old English Bloodlines to preserve a precious genetic heirloom. We breed horses for endurance and pleasure, some of which are for sale. We also lease out horses for endurance rides, including all registration and transport costs.
At Broederstroom, the farm where the stud is based, we offer working riding holidays, which includes the chance to ride competitively for Team PSV. We also do farm stay holidays for families and individuals.
We offer spelling/ livery & training at Broederstroom for riders who want their horses to get a good basis of barefoot conditioning.
For the more experienced rider, we offer intensive training for long distance endurance challenges such as the Mongol Derby. For anyone interested in natural horsemanship, we run a regular Essential Barefoot Course, and have others sorts of courses in planning.
Laura & Francois Seegers are the founders and owners of the Perseverance stud, and are pioneers in barefoot endurance in southern Africa.
Laura has been competing in endurance for over 25 years, with 10,000 km under her belt and her Springbok colours. Laura rode PSV Jedi, one of the stud’s top horses, for the SA National team at this year’s South African International Challenge in Limpopopo and placed 8th. They followed this up by placing 5th at the 3-day Fauresmith 201km Nationals, also for the SA team. Jedi is the first barefoot horse to be selected to compete for this country.
Francois has over 25 years of experience in endurance riding, and has clocked up 8,000 km in endurance rides. He obtained his South African National colours on Alpha, the first horse bred by the stud.
Francois, (often called by his nickname, Bob) has never been one to follow the crowd. This was amply demonstrated when the stud first took their horses barefoot. He studied extensively, and learned to trim himself. Where once he shod all the stud’s horses, he now only trims for barefoot performance. Today, with a hundred horses on the property, there is not a single horseshoe. Though he has his share of wins and Best Conditions, he spends much of his time out of the limelight building up the strength of the best horses.
Francois will be riding PSV Karoo for the national Heavyweight team at the 2012 South African International Challenge in the Free State. He is currently the leading senior South African endurance rider on the FEI World Rankings.
TEAM PSV: Francois & Laura Seegers, Gurth & Rosemary Walton, Lucy Dixon, Donalyn Hennessy, Ashley Gower & Abbi Tennant (a guest rider from Team GBr).
